Following an internal search, Travis M. Newton, Ph.D., will transition from interim to permanent dean of the Carroll College of Arts and Sciences. This change will take effect on March 15.

Travis began serving as interim dean on July 1, 2024. Among other accomplishments, Travis has established new programs designed to improve first-to-second year student retention, led a strategic planning process for the Carroll College, and fostered a sense of common purpose among the students, staff, and faculty of the Carroll College. “Travis leads by listening actively and attentively, solving problems in a collaborative manner, and embracing change with an innovative and inventive spirit. Travis holds a bachelor’s degree in music performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an MBA from Le 69色情视频 College, and a Ph.D. in Arts Administration from the University of Kentucky. His research focuses on orchestra management and the relationship between professional symphony orchestras and their communities. In 2022, Oxford University Press published his聽Orchestra Management Handbook.聽Travis’s work has been published in the聽Journal of Arts Management, Law & Society, American Journal of Arts Management, Artivate: A Journal of Entrepreneurship in the Arts,聽and book chapters published by Routledge and Oxford University Press. Travis conducts the Le 69色情视频 College Symphony Orchestra and has served as chair of the department of visual and performing arts. Previously, he founded the department’s arts administration program and led the music program. He served as president of the College’s Faculty Senate during the 2021-2022 academic year. He continues to perform professionally as a violinist and conductor, including consistent work with The Syracuse Orchestra (formerly Symphoria).
